Edvard Grieg 1907-2007 12th International Memorial Composition Competition

This years competition theme: «Folkloric pieces for piano»

Edvard Grieg’s main inspiration source was the Norwegian folk music.  He used this material especially for his piano pieces Op. 17 ( 25 pieces) and Op. 66 ( 19 pieces). The Oslo Grieg Society wants to commemorate the 100th year of Edvard Grieg’s death by a competition for composers all over the world.  The pieces should be written for piano and based on folkloric tunes and melodies from any part of the world..  Duration: 12 -15 minutes. Latest day for sending the score is April 1st, 2008. There is no registration form.

The winners entry will be performed  at The Oslo Grieg Festival, July 2008.  The composer will be awarded NOK 10 000 and invited to the concert, travel and living costs paid.

Jury: Einar Steen-Nøkleberg (chairman), The Oslo Grieg Society, Ole Böhn, The Norwegian Opera, Per Chr. Jacobsen, The Norwegian Academy of Music, Alexander Müllenbach, Mozarteum Salzburg.

Mark your score with a motto only, not your name.  Enclose an envelope with the same motto. The envelope must contain your name, address and telephone number etc, a short description of your life, studies and works, a comment on the composition and a photograph of yourself.
